Ask us a question
The River Dee has been a constant in Araminta’s life, flowing past her childhood home in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and shaping her earliest memories. Walks along its banks, quiet moments spent bird watching, and a deep love for the landscape all feed into the design of the Amber Riverbank tartan.

The Amber Riverbank tartan draws directly from these experiences, capturing the beauty and change in colours of the riverbank in autumn. Soft orange tones reflect the larch trees turning with the season, lining the riverbanks with a warm, golden hue. Deep orange represents the bracken that carpets the woodland floor, while pine green honour the steadfast Scots pines that stand tall along the water’s edge. Yellow reflects the changing colours of the leaves as autumn takes hold, while navy and black complete the palette, echoing the dark, reflective depths of the River Dee.

The colours within the Amber Riverbank tartan were originally developed by Araminta through her extensive knowledge of natural dyeing. Using sanders wood, onion skins, indigo, alkanet root, and dried heather, she created a bespoke palette with intention and precision. Each colour is entirely unique, carefully crafted through a deep understanding of how natural materials behave.
